Abstract
Human capital becomes a very valuable resource in various kinds of organizations
including organizations in banking sector. It needs special attention to be managed.
Competencies management is a key methodology to manage the human resources in the
banking sector in order to become profesional bank as mentioned in Indonesian Banking
Architectur (API). There is no single definition of comptency concept. Every organization
use its own concept and measurement based on its organizational policies and strategy.
However, competency can be defined as a set of science, knowledge, skills, attitude as
well as collective team, processes, and organizational capabilities, that are linked to high
performance, and provide the organization with sustainable competitive advantage. This
article elaborates the concept of comptency and its measurement from the perspective of
individual profiles and capability as well as behavioural ones. It underlines also the role
of competency of employee as a key sucess factor of banking organizations in facing
competition, changes, penetration of technology, globalisation and deregulation.
